Should cannabis be legalised?
Questions for discussion:

  1. Is legalization a good idea? If so, why and why not?
  2. Is marijuana a gateway drug? (i.e. is it the first step to trying harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin - God forbid)
  3. Is marijuana better/worse than alcohol/cigarettes?
  4. Is legalization a good idea for Russia?
  5. Should it be a priority for governments?
  6. If the government should legalize, then how much control should there be versus having a free market?
  7. What are your thoughts on cannabis cure potentials?
  8. Should employers be able to hire on the basis if a person smokes marihuana? (As long as it does not affect his work performance)
  9. Should marijuana be legalised medicinally or recreationally (retail purchase)
  10. How is outlawing marijuana different from alcohol prohibition?
  11. To recap what are the pros and cons?

The National Cancer Institute Says Cannabis Kills Cancer

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) updated its website to include various studies revealing how cannabis may inhibit tumor growth by killing cells, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. The institute also said that cannabis does this while protecting healthy cells.

NCI released the following statement after updating its website:

"A laboratory study of cannabidiol (CBD) in estrogen receptor positive and estrogen receptor negative breast cancer cells showed that it caused cancer cell death while having little effect on normal breast cells. Studies in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer showed that cannabinoids may lessen the growth, number, and spread of tumors."

Cannabis can heal broken bones

Researchers at Tel Aviv University conducted a study on rats with mid-femoral fractures and were able to determine that cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychotropic component of cannabis, can help heal bone fractures.

Dr. Yankel Gabet, of the Bone Research Laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Anthropology at Tel Aviv University issued the following statement:

"We found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue. After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future."

NIDA says cannabis kills cancer cells

In April, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) revised their April 2015 publication was revised to say the following:

"Recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain cancer cells and reduce the size of others. Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors. Research in mice showed that these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation."

Cannabis usage lowers the risk of bladder cancer

In the February issue of the Journal of Urology, scientists confirmed that cannabis usage helps lower the risk of bladder cancer for males. Researchers were able to determine that cannabis usage lowers the risk of developing bladder cancer by 45%. People who use only tobacco are 1.52 times more likely to develop bladder cancer, and people who use tobacco and cannabis have a 1.28 times chance of getting bladder cancer.

"In conclusion, we observed an inverse association between cannabis use and the development of bladder cancer. If this represents a cause and effect relationship, this pathway may provide new opportunities for the prevention and or treatment of bladder cancer."

The benefits can no longer be ignored

Currently, 40 states have passed laws that allow for the use of some form of medical marijuana. Even though marijuana clearly has medical benefits, it remains a Schedule I substance alongside heroin, LSD, ecstasy, and bath salts under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

The benefits of marijuana can no longer be ignored. The recent findings, NIDA's admission, company developments, and the opinion of Dr. Sanjay Gupta and of the United States Surgeon General should be enough to reschedule marijuana and promote research into it.
